Information for Dentists and Clinical Dental Technicians

DESIGN OF THE PLAYSAFE MOUTHGUARDS

Playsafe Mouthguards are constructed to articulated upper and lower models. They are normally made to fit the upper arch and extend no further back than half way across the upper first molar teeth (unless otherwise requested). The Playsafe Mouthguard is a pressure laminated mouthguard which is constructed by Pressure Forming several different layers of protective material together to produce a highly protective Custom Made Playsafe Mouthguard.

ADDED PROTECTION

Each Playsafe Mouthguard contains the indentations of the lower teeth within the occlusal surface of the Playsafe Mouthguard so that if the patient receives a blow to their lower jaw it is protected (players tend to clench their teeth in situations of tension).

CE MARK

The Playsafe Mouthguard complies in full with the Personal Protective Equipment Legislation and demonstrates this by having the CE mark in its recognisable form of black text on a white background permanently sealed within it.

ADDED FEATURES

The player’s name a radio opaque strip, the red Playsafe Mouthguards Logo, the Mouthguard Type and the CE mark are permanently sealed within each Playsafe Mouthguard.

PATIENTS UNDERGOING ORTHODONTIC TREATMENT WITH REMOVABLE ORTHODONTIC APPLIANCES, WITH ERUPTING TEETH OR WITH NEW RESTORATIONS

Despite changes in the patients dental arches the Playsafe Mouthguard can be normally quickly adjusted to accommodate orthodontic treatment, erupting teeth or newly fitted restorations.

Warning! This technique must not be used if fixed orthodontic appliances are worn as the softened mouthguard will wrap around the appliance and will be impossible to remove. In cases of removable orthodontic appliances it can only be used if the patient does not wear their removable appliances when wearing the mouthguard for the above reason.

Boil some water and place the mouthguard in the boiling water for no less than 20 seconds. Take care not to burn yourself.

Remove the mouthguard with a large spoon (do not use tweezers) and pass it through some lukewarm water to cool the exterior of the mouthguard.

Place the mouthguard immediately in the patient’s mouth. The exterior surface of the mouthguard will be cooled enough for the patient to tolerate while the interior surface will remain warm enough to allow it to re-moulded.

Ask your patient to close their jaw very gently and then push the inside of the mouthguard with their tongue. Hold the outside of the mouthguard with your thumb and finger to maintain the mouthguards adaptation to the dental arch while it is cooling. This will ensure a good fit and retention.

Hold in position for at least 1 minute until it has cooled.

ARTWORK AND LOGOS SEALED WITHIN OUR PLAYSAFE MOUTHGUARDS

It is even possible to include artwork such as your school or club logo permanently sealed within the front of your mouthguard subject to it being copywrite free or you having written permission from the owner of the copywritten artwork. Your patient will need to inform you of their requirements and send the artwork directly to us as a .jpg by email with your name, address and contact telephone number, together with their name.

CARRYING CONTAINER AND CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

Each Playsafe Mouthguard is supplied with a carrying container and care instructions.

IMPRESSION TAKING AND BITE RECORDS

We require upper and lower impressions, which should be taken in alginate to the full depth of the palate and sulcus and include all the teeth in both upper and lower tooth arches.

We also require a full arch bite registration of the patient in centric occlusion, however obvious the patient’s bite appears to be.

IMPRESSION STORAGE AND PACKING

Do not store the impressions in a fridge as it will distort them. Impressions should be placed in a self-seal plastic bag with some damp tissue and packed carefully in a rigid cardboard box (padded bags are unsuitable as the impressions can become squashed).

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT LEGISLATION

Playsafe Mouthguards comply in full with the Personal Protective Equipment Legislation and to demonstrate this each Playsafe Mouthguard has the CE mark permanently sealed within it.
